Prime Minister Invites Tea Party Investors

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that foreign investors will have the opportunity to invest in developing the tea industry.

The Prime Minister said that the new products should be brought into line with the increasing world population. Wickremesinghe made this remark at a seminar organized to mark the 125th anniversary of tea industry in Sri Lanka.

The Colombo International Tea Conference was opened yesterday (09) and ends on the 11th of this month. The summit commenced yesterday by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“In parallel to the growth of the population over the past two years, new technology, new methods and new markets should be targeted. We have a long-term plan. The world’s population is increasing substantially over the next two millennia. By then, there will be a billion population growth in Europe. Population increase from India to the Indonesian region. Also, the Indian Ocean and Africa populations will increase considerably. We need to adjust to this situation. The new products should be made using new technology, “the prime minister added.

Minister Navin Dissanayake, Rohan Pethiyagoda, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board and many local and foreign representatives also participated at this occasion.
