Sri Lanka has international competition 79 medals in this year
Sri Lankan players were able to win 79 medals in eight major international sports competitions this year. These medals consist of 29 gold medals, 39 silver medals and 11 bronze medals. Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has given financial backing to all these international sports competitions and the Sports Development Department has taken steps to offer the medals.

Sri Lanka won the Gold Medal in the International Coast Kabaddi Tournament in Mauritius and became the best ever Kabadi. Sri Lanka won two silver medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas. Kyle Abassinghe became the runner up. It is a great achievement for Sri Lanka in swimming.
At the fourth Asian Karate Championship held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo, Sri Lanka won 62 medals including 21 gold, 33 silver and 8 bronze medals. It was also the greatest victory ever made in karate.

Sri Lanka won a silver medal at the World Paralympic Championship held at the Elizabeth Grounds in London, Queen Anuruddha yesterday. It was won by javelin Dinesh Priyantha Herath. Sri Lanka won a silver medal and a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Weight Lifting Championship in Gold Coast, Australia.

At the 15th Asian Junior Athletic Championship in Brunei, Sri Lankan athletes won five gold medals and a bronze. At the Asian indoor Games in Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka won a gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal. Athletics, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wrestling, the Asian Indoor Games, 14 athletes and 7 women athletes participated at all athletic events.
Lucian Pushparage of the 51st Asian Bodybuilding Championship held in South Korea won a gold medal.

Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara believes that the number of medals in the Games can be won at international sports events in 2018 according to current sports development programs and infrastructure development.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the Jakarta State Games in Jakarta, are the two most important competitions for the Sri Lankan athletes.
